The garden?........well is is almost bare. I have 5 tomato plants standing and 4 pepper plants left
Neither is producing much anymore, which is expected at this time of year.
What have I learned? Well, it has been informative, annoying, confusing and maddening at times.
Would I do it all again? YES !!
I have learned that groundhogs do NOT like used cat litter :) Making a mental note of that for next year.
Not to put epson salts on tender young lettuce seedlings either.
Not to overwater eggplant.
Water consistently plants that like their "feet wet"
Plant extra peas and stick with tomato plants that are established producers.
Believe it or not, I am planning my garden for 2017 already.
Spaghetti squash will be added :) and I will try Kale again too.
I think we will pass on Zucchini because I have so much frozen from this year. LOL
I feel rewarded and accomplished.
It is a good feeling !!
Lol...a learning process! Oh, and if you use seven dust, make sure you grab the seven dust and not the round up when spraying the okra--bwah ha ha ha. Poor Daddy...

ReplyDeleteI am a beginner gardener too and I think taking notes like you have here is the best way to learn. I have grown spaghetti squash for the last two years and with only about four plants, I have enough to feed the nation, LOL. They are fun to grow. I put mine in the well-house last year to keep them from freezing and they stayed nice all year. We ate the last one from last years crop about a month ago. I've had problems growing cucumber. Do you have any suggests?
ReplyDeleteHi Connie! I had some cuq's this year. I found that they like the soil moist, use straw mulch (keeps soil moist and slugs away) and it is advised that you trellis them. If you have vine cuq's train them to grow up your fence or create a wire trellis for them. Using this, the fruit will stay clean and it will be easier to pick. :) A lot of my gardening issues were due to the lack of rain we had this past summer, heres hoping 2017 will be better. :) Let me know how you make out please !!!
